Full Realism Flight Information by 'Cage' Greetings, Friday night I was doing some training with =MDM= in the FR training area. After we was done I was joined by =PHX= and =MUS= and we basically had a free for all to try out tactics and planes to see what they could and couldn't do. Here is a list of what I found in FR. 1) BF109-f
This plane I have flown in RR and it does do pretty good but just about
everything out turns it there. I found in FR this plane really rocks. The
rolls in FR are reversed and the 109 can out turn about everything and is
very close call on the spit. This plane handles beautifully in FR and the
manual was correct about it being the one plane that benefits greatly by FR.
I was able to pull up to 6g turns in this plane and would just start to get
a slight hint of a blackout. I didn't really stall out much in those tight
turns and stall recovery was really pretty simple. Flat spins though were
tuff. All in all the 109 is a kick butt plane in FR. On my scale of 1-10 I
rate that plane an 8.
2) Hawker Hurricane II
This plane flies almost identical to the Zero with few exceptions. I
think it will just about turn even with a Zeke but not quite although the
Zeke will go into a spin before the Hurri will. This plane will does pretty
good in low speed loops, and stall recovery fairly straight forward. It
absolutely hates high Yoyo's and will go into a spin almost every time you
try it. In FR those 12x.303 machine guns really come into play as they act
more like paper shredder there. Rating on this plane is a 6 mostly because
of the slow speed in which it flies.
3) P-47 Thunderbolt
The Manuel says this plane doesn't benefit much from FR but that
depends on your point of view. While it is still some what a dog yet I did
fly it with some pretty good results. In FR it did turn with the fighters I
flew it against and those 8x50cal machine guns made some quick work of the
planes I hit. While I did get pinged in that plane it just kept on flying
and didn't die till I stalled it into the deck. Stall recovery in the Jug
is a bit tricky but an experienced pilot can recover it. Don't try to loop
that plane unless your flying at almost super sonic speeds LOL. If it
stalls in the top of the loop it will go into a real nasty spin where the
nose will be heading straight down and you'll not be able to pull out.
Weirdest thing I have ever seen. Rating on this plane 5. BTW this plane is
still the master ack killer whether FR or RR.
4) F4U Corsair
I think this is my all time favorite plane in FR. It is not the best
at everything but it does better then most can. It's fast, maneuverable (
if kept fast), take some real damage, and will get you home most of the
time. Great BnZ machine and a fair TnB against other BnZ aircraft. Stalls
can be a bit hard sometimes to get out of but for the most part easy to get
out of. Rating on this bird is a 9.
5) P-51 Mustang
This is a great plane for speed and get away power. Good ammo load and
fuel ability make it a good long time vultcher plane. It turns as good as a
hog, will out run one with ease, but major drawback to this plane is the low
tolerance in the damage level department. You get pinged in this plane it's
time to go home. I find that blackouts in this plane are a bit more easy to
have happen then in the hog at the same speeds. Rating on this bird is a 7
6) F6F Hellcat
The Hellcat can TnB as well as BnZ but you got to be real careful flying
this plane. Not sure why but this plane blackouts seem to be the easiest to
attain. Parasitic drag on this plane really shows it's ugly head on this
plane. It looses E in turn fights really fast, so much so a good hog pilot
can almost turn with one. Planes like the Hog can run off and leave this
plane sitting in the dust because it's speed recovery so is bad. If kept
fast and your not blacking out it can do a good job. While I like the cat
in RR I really hate it in FR. My rating on this bird is a 6
7) FW-190 (All)
Now here is a great plane for BnZ but not for beginners. It seems to
be able to pull more G's then it's counter parts before blackouts begin.
Great guns, highly maneuverable at high speeds although not quite as good as
the Mustang. How ever the Mustang pilot will blackout long before the 190
pilot will in a high speed turn. Is one of the easiest planes to recover
from spins. My rating on this plane is a 8
8) P-38 Lightning
This plane is still a plane for people with experience and lots of
patience. Surprisingly I only stalled this plane out one time, but one time
was all it took. I got it into a flat spin and because of the design was
unable to recover from it. The plane literally was falling out of the sky
while plane was straight and level. Other then that one time I never
stalled nor did I even black out in that plane. While I did get shot down
once by a Zeke in it, for the most part it turned rather well. If you have
no rudder peddles or twist grip rudders, don't even try this plane. Only
thing I didn't try was flying on one engine. It's a bitch in RR can imagine
what it would be like in FR LOL. Over all I was impressed with the 38 in
FR. If your up against one watch out. My rating on this bird 8
9) LA-5
If this thing is anything like the real thing I know now why the Germans
kicked butt on the Russians. While spins were pretty easy to get out of, it
seemed to me like I was in an never ending spin all the time LOL. Whole
time I was up never even got a shot off with it. Would still make a good
bomber interceptor because of the climb rate and guns, but as a fighter in
FR I thought it stunk. My rating on this plane 4
10) Oscar
I think this of all the Jap planes is my favorite in FR for TnB. It
handles great, loops great at low speeds, and does some pretty amazing
things while flying. How ever for every plus there is a minus like all Jap
aircraft and in this case it's relatively slow speed, no armor, and very
weak guns. This plane is a great plane for a beginner to learn the ropes
in. Stall recovery is the simplest of all the planes I have flown in FR.
Rating for this plane 6
